We’ll focus on Excel shortcuts for Windows PC. If you’re a Mac user, a quick internet search will help you find the keyboard shortcuts you need. Make sure you’re not missing out on Excel keyboard shortcuts! Welcome back to 30 Day Excel Analyst.
Why learn keyboard shortcuts in Excel? It’s a fair question, and I do know of Excel users who genuinely prefer using the mouse. First, from a practical perspective, tapping a key on the keyboard requires less mental effort than the complex combination of motor movements needed to operate a mouse or (still worse) a laptop mouse pad. That means less ‘cognitive load’ for your brain. Simply put, you’re not working as hard – your experience of Excel feels smoother, less stressful, with mental bandwidth to think about other things – the task in hand and the real-world value you’re delivering, not ‘getting Excel to work’.
But the benefit of learning Excel keyboard shortcuts extends beyond the practical. Being able to operate Excel using the keyboard looks impressive to others. This can count for a lot if you’re in a meeting or delivering a presentation involving spreadsheets. Yes, keyboard shortcuts project an image of confidence using the software – this can only bode well for your career as an Excel analyst!
In today’s session, I talk you through the 23 Excel keyboard shortcuts I use most in my Excel work. I recommend learning one keyboard shortcut each time you open up Excel. So, make sure you download the Excel file, work along with me, and be sure to leave the session with at least one new Excel keyboard shortcut to apply to your work today!
